It’s not fat, it’s not sugar but fat and sugar combined that is the problem!

People proclaim they’re addicted to chocolate?
But are they?
How come, it’s never ‘dark chocolate’, with the higher cacao content, they say they’re addicted to but ‘milk chocolate’, containing more fat and sugar than it does cacao?
It’s not truly ‘chocolate’ they’re addicted to but rather the fat and sugar combined, added by manufacturers!
The level of fat to sugar that people find so appealing, whether it’s in the form of ‘milk chocolate’, ‘donuts’, ‘confectionery’ etc., is very specific, being 50% fat to 50% sugar. This 50:50 fat:sugar ratio combination, is the ratio added by manufacturers to our foods and is only found in processed foods and cannot be found in nature. Research suggests that this fat-sugar combination interferes with one’s self-regulatory and reward mechanisms, finding it so rewarding that it turns off the brain’s self-regulatory ability to signal to stop eating when sufficient number of calories to maintain a healthy weight have been consumed, so one continues to eat and continues put on weight, becoming more and more obese, seemingly in the same way that a drug addict or alcoholic are unable to stop consuming their drug of choice. So if you want to try to maintain a healthy weight try to stay clear of processed food containing fat and sugar combined e.g. milk chocolate, donuts, cream buns etc. If you already find yourself unable to control your eating and your weight is putting your health at risk seek professional help as it isn’t going to be easy to turn things around and will need support to help you do so.

Watch out for all those hidden sugars in our food!

Are we addicted to sugar – possibly but even if we are not our brains find it as rewarding as cocaine and heroin and what makes us feel good is going to make want more. Manufacturers have long known that a high level of sugar, fat and salt added to food will make us want to eat more – great for their pockets not so good for health!

Is sugar the new killer to replace tobacco? much evidence suggests it might be although the food manufacturers would have us believe different but so too was the case when we first discovered smoking caused lung cancer and was a killer.

beware of all that hidden added sugar that isn’t easy to identify – ketchup, pasta sauces, bread, pizza, yoghurt, low-fat products including low-fat yoghurt – to mention a few. often it isn’t listed as sugar but as glucose, corn or glucose syrup, dextrose, sucrose, fructose, lactose, honey, treacle, fruit juice…..

check ingredient lists and definitely don’t buy a product with any of the above sugars in the first three items on the ingredient list

Why does my gut reject the natural substrates

Why does my gut reject the natural substrates intended for digestion and absorption? Why does it so aggressively fail to function as it ought? Why does it send food creeping back up my throat, so I need to keep my mouth tight shut in case it comes all the way up and out my mouth? Why is it that as soon as I put a morsel of food into my gut it seems to immediately walk out and strike? What’s with the gurgling noises in my throat? Why on eating does my gut have to make me so terribly nauseas and wishing I could actually puck and have it over with? Why is it that my gut fails to propel food along, actively digest and absorb it, leaving me lethargic and weighed down, doubled in two with painful spasms, fit for nothing but to lie down as my body despairs at not receiving a reliable source of fuel as and when I need it to adequately function, despite having done my bit in eating the food? What of the extreme pounding pain in the middle of my chest, penetrating right through me my inners to my back so strong it pains to breathe? The bottom line – I must force food down my gut and keep doing so despite the severe nausea, so bad I feel I’m going to puck, the food just swallowed creeping back my throat, colliding with the last mouthful swallowed,  the buckling pain, the thought of food never mind the sight of it making my stomach churn all the more and the feeling of being so full I can’t eat another morsel yet I must because if I listened to my gut I would waste away to nothing and be dead! I long for the enjoyment most people get out of eating!
